(Purposive Sampling)
This case study is about communication strategies to persuade May
Ratchanok, Thai national badminton player, to follow her coaches’ training programs
and how May Ratchanok negotiate with them. This case study is a qualitative
research through documentary research and in-depth interviews by collecting data
from four key informants using purposive sampling method.
The coaches and sport scientists use communication strategies to persuade
May Ratchanok; pre-game, during game, post-game, and when they have to negotiate
with her; by explaining the reasons and necessities in order to make her understand
and follow the training programs effectively.
The study also found that there is no difference when May Ratchanok
negotiating with her coaches and sport scientists due to the fact that they are
properly consulting with each other all the time to make the training programs
consistent with May Ratchanok's playing style. The negotiating communication
happens when May Ratchanok has an injury that is beyond her abilities to cope with
at that point of time. May Ratchanok understands and accepts her trainers’ decisions
even though her expectations are not met because she knows that her trainers
carefully design the training programs to properly suit her. |
