Abstract: This research project aims to examine how My Precious 2023, the Thai remake of the Taiwanese film You Are the Apple of My Eye, adapts its storytelling to portray Thai cultural values while retaining the essence of the original. Employing textual analysis, this research compared the cultural elements, narrative structures, and character portrayals of the two films to identify similarities and differences. The findings reveal that Thai cultural values are infused into the remake through expressions of respect for monks, and the incorporation of Thai festivals and local settings. For example, the portrayal of key elements reverence of monks highlights the importance of Buddhism in Thai culture. These cultural elements reshape the narrative to reflect Thai societal norms and emotional connections, creating a story that deeply resonates with Thai audiences. The findings of this study reveal how cultural values and narrative structures interact in the Thai remake My Precious 2023, specifically through its adaptation of themes from You Are the Apple of My Eye. These results illustrate the continued resonance of narratives exploring the lives of young people in cross-cultural adaptations, while also highlighting the role of cultural elements in adapting the remake to resonate with Thai audiences. This analysis positions You Are the Apple of My Eye as a culturally influential work in Asia, inspiring ongoing reinterpretations across different cultural contexts.
