This research aimed to 1) examine the factors that affect film scriptwriting which adapted from myths and real events 2) study the structure of film scripts adaptation, and 3) learn about film scripts adaptation for entertainment’s writing process. Seven national awarded films during 1984-2011 which were successful and adapted from acquainted stories among Thais have been chosen as the cases study in this research. Those films included Nam Pu in 1984, 2499 Anthapan Krong Muamg in 1997, Nang Nak in 1999, Hian in 2003, Phee Jang Nang in 2007, Tai Hong in 2010 and Phoom Phuang in 2011. Data collecting from memorandum and reference documents from those myths and real events, was for setting the assumption to In-depth Interview 7 directors and scriptwriters about the content selection concept, story structuring and development, including the obstacles and problem solving. The research found that the factors affecting films scriptwriting which adapted from myths and real events were persons in that legend or real event, as human beings were the most effective characters used for proceeding the story in the form of film. Regardless of heroes or villains, all shows or reflects some beneficial viewpoints. In addition, these persons or characters were acquainted so it influenced audience’s persuasion. The researcher discovered that the scripts structure had been arranged from back to front, that is to say the ending was the crucial part pointing to the main ideas of the story, as well as is the high expectation scene of the audiences. Consequently, the scriptwriter needed to find the events that respond the objectives and communicate main issue first, then put obstacles or difficulties to interrupt and let the main characters fix the problems sporadically in order to continue the story to the fixed climax scene. In order to arrange and compose the adapted film scripts structure, the scriptwriter should select 6-8 main sequences, of which at least 3 sequences should be referred from original stories; so that the sequences could linked and were more reliable than the whole making up stories. The selected scenes should be rearranged into 3 acts then set the sub-plots and transitions to make those events sensible, convincing, and integrated smoothly.
